Welcome to this course entitled ‘Being There’ – an Interactive Skill Enrichment programme for EVERYONE who cares and serves. This course is a guide for listening and really is designed for everyone.
With this training a doctor can be more attuned to his patient, a lawyer more present to his client, a teacher more empathetic with his pupil and a neighbor or friend can feel helpful not helpless! You may be a volunteer, in the medical world, a clergy person, in the field of education, in military service, a funeral director, a professional, working in the prison service and discover you need these essential skills to become more effective in your work. Delivered over nine separate modules this course is a two pronged ‘person-centred’ programme which has been created to address, firstly, the needs of the person seeking support or help, and secondly, to increase the self-awareness of the “skilled listener”. It also strives to point out and clarify the skills, knowledge and boundaries that the “skilled listener” needs to have at his or her disposal, in order to be effective.Our Being There programme has been designed to address the increasing demand for properly trained women and men who find themselves, in any situation, either by choice or by happenstance, in the role of “skilled listener”. You’ll learn that although good intentions may not be enough, yet they are the all-important first step on becoming an effective “skilled listener”.
